BRITAIN'S GLORY?

Instead of looking back over 2009, we'll put our best foot forward to this year with great promise and anticipation. A year of hope & glory? Well, in sporting terms there's always optimism for achievement, especially The Six Nations (I'll not say who we'll be supporting!). Then there's The Open Championship, this July in St Andrews and of course the return of Schumacher battling it out against Brits Hamilton and Button, to get the F1 season off to a good start. Not to mention The World Cup we'll still be cheering north of The Border.

In financial terms, there's mixed opinion but for better rather than worse, and the same too for 6 May - a significant date in this year's calendar where probably the latter sentiment applies!

Whatever you do this year, make it a winner and celebrate success at The Knight Residence. Your formula for a championship welcome.

CHRISTMAS CHEER

Santa, Snow & Mistletoe. Mince Pies, Turkey, Mulled Wine, Rudolf, Scrooge & Christmas Shopping - it all adds up to that annual bonanza, celebrated around most parts to mark the occasion of the birth of Jesus. And isn’t it fun. As with so many things in life, the more effort you put in, the more you enjoy it. So, in this newsletter, here’s a run down of all things Christmassy to set you in the mood. And of course, let’s not forget our usual tips for what’s on this year and next year.

Happy Halloween

This ancient Celtic festival is known as Samhain, a celebration of the end of the harvest season in Gaelic culture, sometimes regarded as the "Celtic New Year".  Traditionally, the festival was a time used by the ancient Celtic pagans to take stock of supplies and prepare livestock for winter stores. The ancient Celts believed that on October 31 the boundary between the living and the deceased dissolved, and the dead become dangerous for the living by causing sickness or damaged crops.

Costumes and masks worn at Halloween goes back to the Celtic traditions of attempting to copy the evil spirits or placate them, in Scotland for instance where the dead were impersonated by young men with masked, veiled or blackened faces, dressed in white..watch out for them! Join us to celebrate Samhain and take part in Edinburgh's spectacular procession and pyrotechnic feast …
