TALES OF THE UNEXPECTED

Recent Volcanic disruptions were certainly unexpected and not even Roald Dahl could have written a more twisted story. I wonder did you hear the infamous theme tune if you were one of the unlucky stranded passengers. We don't want to do our airline friends out of business but wouldn't you rather be sure of reaching your destination when you want, without potential disruptions caused by an event of God or any other force of nature? It's not a ground breaking solution - stay in the UK and better still hop in a car, train or bus and head to the Athens of The North this Summer. Your customary welcome awaits you.

Please visit www.theknightresidence.co.uk for this Summer's hottest offers - without the h"ash"le!

SUMMER BREEZE

If it's the summer we've all been waiting for you'll need to know how to make an afternoon in the garden even more enjoyable. Learn from the mixologists by visiting www.mixxit.co.uk for some first class tips on how to make the best Cocktails. From Pina Colada's to Tom Collins, we're sure you can spin the umbrella without a drop of rain.

AMBLE AROUND

A guided walk with park rangers exploring many different aspects of Edinburgh's Arthur's Seat, from the fascinating wildlife that lives on the hill, to its turbulent past as a volcanic plug, and the traces left behind by its past inhabitants. Free on Monday's weekly. Booking essential. A great way to see all over Scotland is the explorer pass available to buy online. Visit www.historic-scotland.gov.uk or call the box office on 0131 652 8150. For more information on Edinburgh visit www.edinburgh-inspiringcapital.com

COMPETITION TIME

To win this month's competition, please answer the following question and email your answer on the subject header with A, B or C to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it before 31 July:

Question - What's Edinburgh's oldest building?

A) St Margaret's Chapel
B) Scott Monument
C) Holyrood Palace

The first five correct entries will have a tree planted for them in Teaghlach Wood.

Scotland currently has about 17% woodland coverage and unless this is increased dramatically we will not achieve our climate change targets. The European average is about 32% woodland coverage - and this is still not enough. We at The Knight Residence are passionate about our country and about tackling climate change, and have set ourselves the target of planting 1200 trees in the next 5 years. That will not only make us carbon neutral for the present, but also for every year since we opened in 1999.
