Happy Halloween

This ancient Celtic festival is known as Samhain, a celebration of the end of the harvest season in Gaelic culture, sometimes regarded as the "Celtic New Year".  Traditionally, the festival was a time used by the ancient Celtic pagans to take stock of supplies and prepare livestock for winter stores. The ancient Celts believed that on October 31 the boundary between the living and the deceased dissolved, and the dead become dangerous for the living by causing sickness or damaged crops.

Costumes and masks worn at Halloween goes back to the Celtic traditions of attempting to copy the evil spirits or placate them, in Scotland for instance where the dead were impersonated by young men with masked, veiled or blackened faces, dressed in white..watch out for them! Join us to celebrate Samhain and take part in Edinburgh's spectacular procession and pyrotechnic feast …

The Number 10

Some people will relate the number 10 to the home of Gordon Brown, some will more fondly remember the slim figure of Bo Derek in the film “10”.  But those with more affectionate hearts will relate it to The Knight Residence 10th Anniversary.  It’s not just a number for us!  To celebrate our opening in August ’99, this Autumn stay from only £99 per night.  Gordon Brown, Bo Derek or The Knight Residence?  We know who you would choose!

To win this month’s competition, please answer the following question and email your answer on the subject header with A, B or C to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it before 1 November:
Question – In what film did Bo Derek star with Dudley Moore & Julie Andrews?

A) 12
B) 11
C) 10

And it’s not just taking part that makes it fun!  The first 5 correct answers received will receive a special commemorative “The Knight Residence - delivering excellence since ‘99” keyring and business card holder.
